Our client is seeking a Fisheries Biologist to support aquatic resource management, field studies, environmental monitoring, and fisheries-related projects in Whitehorse, Yukon. This opportunity is well suited to a biologist who enjoys field-based work, technical reporting, and contributing to responsible environmental management in northern Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct fisheries and aquatic field surveys, including fish sampling and habitat assessments.
- Collect, manage, and analyze biological and environmental field data.
- Support fisheries monitoring, baseline studies, environmental assessments, and regulatory programs.
- Assist with fish habitat assessments and evaluation of potential impacts from development or resource activities.
- Prepare technical reports, field summaries, data analyses, and other project documentation.
- Maintain accurate field records and ensure sampling and monitoring activities follow established protocols.
- Work collaboratively with environmental specialists, project teams, regulators, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders as required.
- Support permitting and regulatory requirements related to fisheries and aquatic environments.
- Participate in fieldwork in remote and challenging northern environments.
- Promote safe work practices and maintain a strong focus on environmental stewardship.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Fisheries, Aquatic Sciences, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Relevant professional experience in fisheries biology, aquatic ecology, environmental consulting, or a similar field.
- Practical experience with fisheries field sampling, fish identification, habitat assessments, or aquatic monitoring.
- Strong understanding of fisheries biology, aquatic ecosystems, and environmental assessment principles.
- Strong technical writing, data management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness and ability to undertake fieldwork in northern and remote environments.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel for field assignments.
- Experience working in Yukon or other northern environments is an asset.
