Position Overview:
The Senior Mine Planning Engineer is tasked with developing and executing detailed short-term and long-term mine plans and schedules to ensure efficient and effective mining operations. This role encompasses the integration of geological, geotechnical, and operational data to optimize resource extraction while prioritizing safety, environmental compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
Essential Functions:
Mine Planning:
• Develop and enhance short-term and long-term mine plans to maximize resource extraction and profitability.
• Create comprehensive production schedules and collaborate with operations teams to ensure compliance, providing timely feedback to meet the Mine Plan Budget.
• Utilize advanced mine planning software to simulate and analyze mining scenarios and their outcomes.
• Complete designs for mine facilities including pushbacks, dumps, leach pads, stockpiles, roads, and various mine projects.
Data Analysis:
• Analyze geological, geotechnical, and production data to guide planning decisions and identify areas for improvement.
• Review resource models and update them as needed to reflect new data and changing conditions.
Optimization:
• Implement and suggest process improvements to boost operational efficiency and reduce costs.
• Optimize pit designs, drilling and blasting plans, and material handling processes to meet production targets.
Project Management:
• Lead and coordinate mine planning projects, including establishing project timelines and resource allocation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure plans align with broader operational goals.
Compliance and Safety:
• Ensure that mine plans adhere to regulatory requirements, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
• Conduct risk assessments and integrate safety and environmental considerations into planning and design.
• Be responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety program in accordance with OIS policy, directives, and principles.
Reporting:
• Prepare and deliver detailed reports on the progress, performance, and forecasts of mine planning to senior management and stakeholders.
• Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to mine planning and production.
Mentorship and Training:
• Offer guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and mine planning staff.
• Assist in developing training materials and programs to enhance team skills and knowledge.

• Proficient in mine planning software (e.g., Minesight, Whittle, Vulcan).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal capabilities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Certifications:
A Professional Engineering license or comparable certification is preferred.
Additional Requirements: Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards; experience in either underground or open-pit mining is advantageous. Fluency in both Spanish and English is preferred.
Education and Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in mine planning, demonstrating a successful track record in project management and optimization within the mining sector.
