The chosen candidate will join a vibrant geotechnical engineering team and will oversee and evaluate the integration of technical activities and deliverables related to geotechnical projects. This includes planning and engaging in geotechnical site investigations and laboratory testing programs, interpreting results, conducting geotechnical analyses, detailed design, providing technical support during construction, and managing reporting and communications.
Ideal Candidate:
- Possesses a deep understanding of and operates effectively within the geotechnical engineering field.
- Manages field work programs linked to geotechnical site investigations.
- Analyzes in-situ data from geotechnical investigations and laboratory testing to ascertain soil types, classifications, and engineering characteristics.
- Leverages this information, or data from other sources, to conduct geotechnical analyses and design, or to recommend project components such as excavations, dams, foundations, fluid or mine waste impoundments, spillways, and pipeline or penstock anchorages.
- Creates or leads the crafting of clear and concise letters or reports to effectively communicate project findings to clients and stakeholders.
- Reviews study reports, drawings, and technical specifications to provide technical oversight.
- Assesses project information, including source criteria, scope of work, procedures and requirements, diagrams, and client-generated documents, to establish approaches for budget allocation, scheduling, and implementation.
- This involves working within a single engineering discipline or across multiple disciplines.
- Mentors and nurtures less experienced team members to ensure work meets both client and internal quality and efficiency standards. Exhibits responsible project management leadership, promoting teamwork and continuous improvement in all tasks and projects.
- Acts as the client liaison for all project-related matters, developing solid working relationships with client representatives and their teams.
- Explores, evaluates, and assists in securing projects within the mining, water resources, and hydropower sectors, contributing valuable insights to the company’s overall marketing strategy.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in geotechnical engineering and over 10 years of experience in designing and constructing tailings facilities.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE).
- Proficient in MS Office and slope stability software (e.g., GeoStudio and/or RocScience). Familiarity with gINT, FLAC, or PLAXIS, along with knowledge of Civil 3D, is highly desirable.
