Underground Geotechnical Engineer Full Time

Take the next step in your geotechnical career with an operationally focused role supporting underground mining in the Kamloops area. Our client is seeking an Underground Geotechnical Engineer who can combine strong engineering fundamentals with practical field judgement to help manage ground conditions, support rehabilitation, and maintain safe underground operations.

Core Responsibilities

• Perform regular underground inspections and document excavation conditions and ground damage.
• Assess geotechnical hazards and provide practical recommendations to support safe production and development.
• Design and prepare ground support work packages, including cablebolt layouts and rehabilitation plans.
• Provide geotechnical input to mine planning and help identify ground-related constraints and requirements.
• Coordinate geotechnical activities with Operations, Mine Planning, Geology, and Technical Services.
• Evaluate mine designs and development layouts from a ground control perspective.
• Review convergence, instrumentation, inspection, and other monitoring information.
• Complete geotechnical stability assessments to inform support and rehabilitation decisions.
• Assist in maintaining ground control, cave management, and seismic risk management programs.
• Support ground support QA/QC activities and follow up on identified deficiencies.
• Participate in instrumentation programs, trials, training, consultant coordination, and technical initiatives.

Candidate Profile

• Engineering degree in Mining, Geological, Civil, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
• 4+ years of relevant industry or consulting experience.
• Underground mining experience with exposure to ground control or geotechnical engineering.
• Registered or eligible for P.Eng. registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
• Practical knowledge of rock mechanics and underground support systems.
• Strong commitment to safety and effective cross-functional communication.
• Comfortable working underground and responding to practical field challenges.
• Able to manage competing priorities and make sound technical recommendations.
• Experience with block caving or other mass mining methods is an asset.
• Knowledge of Deswik, Leapfrog, Rocscience, FLAC3D, CAD, 3D mine design, or comparable tools is an asset.

Compensation & Conditions

• $110,000–$130,000 anticipated salary.
• Comprehensive benefits package and performance bonus.
• 5×2 Monday–Friday or 4×3 Monday–Thursday / Tuesday–Friday schedule.
• This is a non-camp position; relocation to the Kamloops area is required, with travel and accommodation otherwise the responsibility of the successful candidate.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license required.
• Candidates must demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada.
• Pre-placement functional screening and verification of qualifications will form part of the selection process.
